OK heres my problem the PO or maybe me (accident) disconnected the fan switch on the dash so its hasn't work for me just the fan stays running on very low. finally took it apart the other day and tried to figure out what post on the switch did what and i found out
I(+)
L(H) I(L)I(M)
or something like that did some research on here found the wire diagram then looked under my dash and tangled in some other wires i found the pig tail hiding. plugged it all in and it works fine so i turned it off and went to try it again and it doest work, but the fan is still moving in very low. so i check the power in the switch its only 4.5 not sure what is suppose to be did check before this problem. i check the power to the fan its about 11.5, now knowing if i hook a jumper wire strait from the bat. to the fan it runs fast the 11.5 and it still being very low did make any sense so i jumped it and it ran fast so its not torn up. now whats my problem?

Is this an ac equipped system? Sounds like a bad connection. Clean and recheck all of your connections.

I am having a similar problem with my 84. The fan runs all the time, key off or on does not matter, fan will not shut off. It was cold out so I just wanted it off. I got under the hood to unplug the fan and not drain my battery and I seen what looked to be a relay box near the blower motor, I unplugged it, and the fan went off. Plugged it back in the fan ran again. With the fan running, I tapped that little relay box with the butt end of my metal flashlight and the fan shut off. Worked great for a couple weeks, then had the same problem. Tapped the relay box with a screw driver handle the fan went off and is workng fine again. I am sure the relay it that is what it is, has some sticky contancts and is getting stuck in the on position when I turn the heater or and its not letting go when I turn the power off. So I will eventually replace that little relay box. It is under the hood, passenger side attatched the AC plastic housing. You might have the same malfunction. Worth checking out.

OK taped on the relay looking thing fixed it, then i switched it back off and it did it again so i played with it by taping everything and as long as you tap the a/c housing it turns it on I'm thinking its this
which is at the top of the a/c housing its the blower motor resistor. now even after taping this it only works in high nothing else beside the low-low

What are you taping? I'm
Clean all of your connections especially at the relay and resistor.

I just re-read and you mean tapped not taped right? I read it as you were maybe wrapping tape around the connections and it started working. Clean all of your connections thoroughly. If it still acts up put new terminals or pigtails on the harness. Replace the AC relay while you're at it.

Hope this helps. Its 2am and cold outside, but I got pics of it. You will see the small metal relay type box.

That's the ac relay. Same deal, clean those connections good and replace the relay.
