87 chevy tbi question
«

I have read some of your posts and you guys are extremely knowledgable of gm vehicles. So here is my question: I have a 98 chevy z 71 and want to take the vortec 350 out and put it in my 87 short wide K-10 which has a 350 tbi, np 205 transfer. I was wondering what all would it take to complete this swap. I am new here so Any answers I can get I would greatly appreciate. Thanks.

new fuel pump in the tank (90's TPI pump for f-body or vette) and the fuel lines off the back of the Vortec and of course the ECM/wiring. Otherwise it should drop in, are you swapping to the electronic 4L60E?

I was wanting to keep my trans it is a 350 t with the np205 transfer. Is there any specific info on doing this or should I just keep the tbi with a new manifold that will work with the vortec heads?

If you are keeping the TH350 you just need someone to mod the harness AFAIK and the ECM.

Is your 87 already TBI?

yes vilezambonie it is tbi already. I just have a 98 z 71 that is wearing out (all except the motor) so I just thought if it wasnt to much trouble then I would swap engines. I am just trying to get ideas on what to do. My motor in my 87 is starting to smoke a bit.

You could swap it right in. Everything will swap except the intake manifold. You could pretty much run any vortec style intake manifold and just put a TBI adapter plate on it.

Could I not just get a tbi adapter plate for the 98 vortec stock intake?

I think I am going to get a dual plane intake with an adapter and a spacer and call it good. Right now I am getting the front end rebuilt and then I will start looking for an intake and probably more info from you as I tackle this swap. Thanks for your help. If there is anything other than these parts that I am going to need feel free to suggest. I need all the help I can get.
