Thrust Bearings

So in a couple weeks I'm going to completely overhaul my 2wd th400 for my 4wd blazer.  I bought a respectable high performance overhaul kit from a local transmission shop called D&E (very popular shop in southeast michigan), a 32 element intermediate sprag, and a shorter 203 output shaft.  But I've noticed that the overhaul kit does not have new thrust bearings.  Now the only reason I'm rebuilding this th400 is because I need the 4wd output shaft, other than that the trans shifted and worked perfectly.  Should I replace all the thrust bearings or will I be able to re-use the old ones?  The input shaft endplay is within spec.

EDIT:  I mean thrust WASHERS, not bearings

Measure the input and output shaft end play before your tear down. If it's within spec and they are not damaged re-use them. They typically don't get too much wear. They are also available in different thicknesses and are not usually part of a master overhaul kit.

The input shaft endplay is .017" and my haynes th400 overhaul manual says that anywhere from .003" to .023 is acceptable.  As for the output shaft end play the book doesn't specify any measurment and I can feel that it has no endplay at all.  Jegs has a TCI thrust washer kit for the th400 for $23, I'm debating on if I should order it or not.

i wouldnt worry about it.. if you were over .020 i would go ahead adn get new ones
