Choosing a Carb
« on: February 14, 2010, 02:43:37 pm »
I have a Edelbrock 600 Elec choke, and a M4MED Rochester Quadrajet(original). Both probably need a rebuild, I was wondering what you guys would go with? It is a 4.3 v6 recently rebuilt and bored .30 over and also has headers(still a POS but I need to get it running and don't really have the means to replace the engine). Also any recommendations on who to use for the rebuild?

With a 4.3 it would almost be mandatory to go with the Q-jet.

The Q-jet seems more suitable for your application but either will work. You should be able to get better fuel mileage with the Q-jet. If you post the casting # we can give you a part # for a rebuild kit.

Yea I don't know if I could really rebuild it, I'll probably have to have it sent off. It will run but the truck idles awful. Sometimes it will try to idle to about 35mph, which sucks. The edelbrock is just......makes it run super super rich. Does anybody think that just running shorty headers with about a foot of pipe out of it might be causing some problems with the absolute lack of back pressure? I do not drive it any distance, just around the yard from our two different shops....?

rebuild it your self, buy a good book on Q jets and study it. buy a rebuild kit, and in a couple hours u will be done just take your time. everyone always says how complicated q jets are. They really arent as long as u become firmiliar with all the parts before you start and keep everything organized as u take it apart. Plus if you do it yourself you can take pride in what you did. just my 2 cents
