oil pan touching cross member
« on: March 12, 2010, 10:05:12 am »
i've got a 85 3/4 ton 4x4,just pulled my old 454 and put in a 496 stroker, the new motor has a 6 quart oil pan that is touching the cross member,,my question is,,is there some motor mounts that will raise the motor up enough to clear?

Maybe put in a spacer between the mounts and the frame?  how much lift do you need?  depends on how much it will be moving when you romp on it.

Why not alter the crossmember (it bolts in) to clear the oil pan? Moving the angle of the whole engine/transmission/transfer case to account for having a bigger pan doesn't seem like the right way to go to me. How about picking up an extra crossmember & cutting/welding a shape like this \___/ into the center or if you really only need an inch, just notch the crossmember & plate it in & maybe add a 1" x 3" or 4" rectangle tube on the bottom? My Two cents, Lorne
