I just started to change my setup from v-belt to serpentine, which I bought off of ebay.  It came with the brackets, A/C compressor, Power Steering pump, Alternator and the tensioner.  The bolt holes are all there but the problem I'm having is that the water pump seems to be in the way.  My truck is an 85 and the setup I bought is from a 98.  Do I need to get a W/P for a 98?  Has anyone else had this issue, and the top rad hose will need to be changed to clear the alternator, is there a stock hose that will work? I've attached pics of my situation.  Any insight will be welcomed.  Thanks.

I did the same to my truck. I had to get a reverse rotation water pump. They cost the same as the others it just that it has to rotate differently than the old style because the serp. belt turns the pump in opposite direction. My setup was from 87-95 generation motors.

I bought my motor in 98 from a gm dealership, it's a goodwrench engine.  So would I have to get a reverse rotation water pump from the 98 that the serpentine kit came off of?

You'll find that the waterpump pulley bolt holes won't match up if you compare them so you'll need a new waterpump.

that was the first thing I noticed and I was going to redrill them until I found out that I couldn't use my existing water pump.  I guess what I'm asking is what do I buy for a water pump?

seems the setup was from a 92, but I don't think that changes anything.  Now the fan that I have will also have to be reverse rotation I'm guessing.  I called napa today and they told me the fans they have are listed according to rear end ratio.  Is that really that important, or can I just get a fan from the 92.  Also wondering what you would do with the top radiator hose to clear the alternator, different thermostat housing maybe?  Its rests hard on the alternator.  Thanks!

You should be okay to use the same hose if you use a rotating thermostat housing. I did, and I don't have any clearance issues. As for the fan, I went with two electric fan setup.

Has anyone used the BB conversion kit sold by kwikperf? I am wondering if it will work with 990 heads.

All installed now, but the alternator I have is a cs130D and I only have the red wire from the back of my old SI alternator hooked to the back of the new one.  I'm pretty sure I need to hook the other two wires up to it for it to work properly.  This truck had a battery light at one time but I switched it over to guages and now I don't know exactly how to rewire it, do I need to have this light hooked back up?  The plug on the back of the new alternator is an oval one.  I'm not at all handy when it comes to wiring and would really like it if someone could explain it so a child would understand.  Thanks
