Stressed!!
« on: April 19, 2010, 09:40:49 pm »
Ok guys need suggestions. I started my radiator core support swap today and everything is goin ok BUT when I was loosening my fenders, the bolt between the door and the fender twisted right off! How do I get this out? I knew better to pull that hard but I did anyway, like a bonehead. LOL Also do I need to use the charcoal canister off the suburban and just drill holes in the fender for it? Thanks guys. I dont know what I would do without you guys.

Either drill it out, or try and weld a nut to it.

Exactly which bolt are you talking about? If you're changing the core support what are you doing at the door?

He must mean the bolt at the top of the fender, below the a-pillar. Right? I didn't bother loosening my bolts that far back. I loosened pretty all the rest of the though and still had to struggle some with getting the old support out. Getting the new support in was more of a fight, but I got it, and did it alone.

As for the canister, you could potentially take your old one off and put it on the new support, by drilling holes and mounting with bolts and nuts. The old one sucks to get off though because the bottom stud is riveted to the support and you can't get a socket in there to get at the nut. Ratcheting wrenches are the perfect tool for that application.......if you have them  :(

Vile I am doing this solo so I was trying to make it as easy as possible. So I loosened the all the fender bolts to give a little more room and snapped that sucker right off. Going to try and drill it tonight.

I wouldn't have taken those out or even loosened them. You should be able to get it out without loosening them. As for that one, center punch it and drill it.
