motor dies when its cold?
« on: April 30, 2010, 05:50:09 am »
for some reason my truck keeps wanting to die when its cold, seems worse when its warmed up, i can drive fine but the truck will die when ever i have to stop. it only seems to happen when its cold... if i watch the volts gauge it goes way down when it is about to die too?.. could it be that my choke is getting stuck or something? im not even sure if i have a choke on my truck anymore, haha. i have a 350 with edelbrock carb and manual trans by the way. also my truck has been making some weird noises lately, dont know if their related or not but it makes kinda a tink/squeaking sound when i have truck in gear and im accelerating, the noise goes away once i get some speed but just makes me nervous.... also it is starting to vibrate/shake when i start slowing down from higher speeds (40+) the vibration goes away if i give it just a little gas, but once im off the pedal it comes right back? anyone know whats going on/bad?

This is confusing....

Make sure your choke is working if you're saying it only runs poorly when it's cold (but then you said it seems worse when it's warmed up  ??? )

Check your U-joints asap

haha yeah sorry that is misleading, what i meant was it only has problems in cold weather, 35 or below. but it usually starts just fine and the motor will get up to temp but then it will start acting like it want to die... hope that clears up the confusion. took the air cleaner off and looked at the carb and it turns out my choke isn't even hooked up. the wires to hook it it are just wrapped around it, i guess to keep it open? and will do on the u-joints, what should i be looking for?

What carburetor do you have?

Check the U-joints for any play but even so if the noise is coming from the driveshaft area just replace them.
