I see some hinky stat-crunching in the article, but I think I pretty much agree with (some of) the myth-tips.

air filter
... filter minders are nice... pending on how/were one drive and how dirty it gets depends on how often it gets changed. i have seen airfilter pull idle down 100-150rpm when put on.
octane
pending if the engine is a 9:1 or a 10:1 top gear did this..
idle time.... up in the air.. depending on how long and how often one idles their engine. a cold engine will consume more fuel be it gas or diesel till it reaches operating temp then an idleing engine at norm temp.
warm up...colder the fluid is the harder it is to move.. mean it take longer for oil to drian back down form the top on a cold engine then warm engine.

The man on the television says if you want better mileage just put more air in your tires.

Changing a dirty air filter won't increase your fuel economy
Neither will wiping your butt after you poop. I really hate these articles that mislead people into ignoring maintenance on their vehicles.

Talking to a older neighbor a couple years ago and some smart guy at a dealership told him don't never drive his car into dust ex. When a farmers plowing his field cause that much dust will just go by the air filter. He said to turn his car off and cost through it. I had to stop my self from laughing didn't want to insult the older man cause he was serous
