Well last night my girlfriend and I decided to go camping about 20 miles from town...We got there and got everything set up (including a tent I had never set up). After being there for about 2 hours, I thought I heard a car coming but no car was in site...It was rain. So it starts pouring, we fly into the tent, only to realize that the windows were down and everything is soaked. Great night so far, my mom calls me and tells us we should think about leaving cause the worst is yet to come (60 mph winds, hail, possibly tornadoes). So during the storm we get everything thrown into the bed of my truck and take off.
Now the fun part happens...When we get back into town, my defroster decides to quit working...So windows fogging up, it's raining cats and dogs and we're driving back home...We stop at her house to get a change of clothes, and head back to my house...I had a route planned out that shouldn't have been too bad, well we get back to my house almost and I have to drive 2 blocks down a street to my house...We get to the street and there is a river there, you can't see the street at all, there must have been 2-3 feet of water there.
By this point i'm just pissed off beyond belief and want to get home. My brakes are complete shoot cause of all the water, my windows are fogging up, and we decide to go for it. I hit the water doing maybe 15 and immediately just think to myself "Oh Heck.". I keep on the gas steady and we're chugging along, I'm cursing up a storm, got water coming in the dang doors and my tranny is being a POS. At this point the water is up to the bottom of my grille, and keep in mind I have a 2wd pickup...And i can barely see anything out the windshield, I see a street and breathe a sigh of relief...Home. Finally. So yeah, that was my interesting night, but my truck pulled through and is still running like a champ today, had to have been one of the scariest driving experiences of my life.
Oh, and across the street from me a rain gauge said we got 5 inches, in about 1.5 hours, enough to wash the railroad tracks out there and cause a train to become stuck and block 2 intersections all morning.
