changing coil springs

I have an 84 C10, I am changing my front coil springs and wanted to know the easiest way to get this done

do you have a manual? get a coil spring compressor too. (maybe, but i dont have a C series)

you can rent the compressor tool from autozone if you don't want to buy one

I have the book and can get a spring comp. I have done them before but someone told me I can do it without seperating the upper balljoint from the spindle is that true.

I changed mine real easily without a spring compressor.  I jacked the truck up as high as I could get it and put it on jack stands.  I used a floor jack to push up on lower control arm (compressing the spring) then undid the upper shock mount and separated the lower control arm and lower ball joint. then just slowly let the jack down and the spring will fall out when the arm gets near vertical.  Putting them in is just as easy except I used a hammer to tap the bottom into the spring cup when the spring was starting to compress.  I did it 3 times each side and my best time was 3 hours to change both springs.

i did mine as well just as Da67goatman described, i tried a spring compressor at first but the springs i was installing were the HD springs and the bent the compressor haha. but when i took the spindle off i seperated it by only undoing the lower ball joint and replaced it anyway just because theyre cheap and i already had most of it apart

  This is the same method i use all the time when bagging friends trucks and doing work on my own trucks. Before i let the jack down slowly i put a small chain thru the LCA and Spring ~ just incase, it cant fly out!

what type of coil springs are u going with,

I went with 2 inch lifted coils, I had a broken coil on the drivers side. Here is the new spring vs the old ones, they are alot thicker. It was very easy to do it took me about 45 min per side to do
