So the day has finally come...

Looks like the mustang beats the camaro on both fronts lol  :D. I'm afraid ol chevy just had to eat a whole humble pie. See that's an SS camaro, VS a GT mustang. Which is supposed to be 1 class lower than an SS. Its always been GT vs z28, (or even RS) and cobra vs SS. Guess they didn't even bother running a cobra vs that lazy ss. I think its time for GM to fire a few engineers and hire a few new ones.

12.9 outta that cammer 5.0... I'm actually impressed by that. The SS pulled a 13.2, still not too shabby outta stock rides.

Still, get two of them side by side and see which driver isn't scared to tach it out... that'll be the one that wins it.

Alot has to do with the drivers, 2 identicle cars will not finish at the exact time, it depends on the drivers talent and abilities.  If you have done any kind of drag racing you would know alot of it is up to the driver.

That's not the only test out there with the same result though. Some of them the SS gets beat a lot worse. From what I've seen that SS must have a great driver.

I'm nothing but impressed with the new 5.0 GT. Ford decided enough is enough and they weren't going to match Chevy, they were going to clobber them with this new motor. I've seen 12.7 in the 1/4. What's sad, impressive and pathetic is that the Shelby GT500, with 100 more, supercharged horsepower (the previous ones, not sure about the latest 540 HP version) is only usually .2-.3 quicker. They cost quite a bit more for very little extra performance. 411 HP and 12 second quarters from the basic Mustang GT is amazing.

Similarl to the Shelby, I think the SS is a bit of a dog for what is. 426 HP should be making faster times than low-13 seconds. The previous generation with non-SS 305 HP LS1 motors were doing those times. That's over 100 HP less! Where is the power being lost is what I want to know??? No doubt the Camaro is porkier than the previous but c'mon. Say 500 lbs heavier is more or less equiv. to about 50 HP and .5 in the 1/4. That equation doesn't add up with the new SS. I remember articles on the LS1 cars where they would nab 13.0x times! Mid to low 13s were normal, but so are the new SS cars. SRT8 Chargers and Challengers can do mid-13s fairly consitently and those are 4000+ lb cars.

LS1 cars were rumored to be under-rated and that's fine but that isn't helping the current SS's image. Now the Vette on the other hand, it makes a lot of use of it's 430 HP. It is a solid mid-12 second car, but it's a good 500 lbs lighter than the Camaro. I got a Motor Trend where they took a RENTAL 2008 Vette convertible (!) with the automatic and 2.56 gearing and still ripped a 12.6 1/4 mile. Wow.

That's ususally why most people lose.... Taching it out isn't going to make you go faster.

I'm sure the ford was designed it to go just a touch faster than the camaro, so now chevy has a new target. It about time chevy can aim for something besides faster than its previous model. If I had a camaro I would now be looking for an upgrade to make sure that doesn't happen to me.

Yeah I'm not really a ford or a chevy fanboy, I give credit where credit is due. This is simply a great mustang and that's all there is to it. I wouldn't mind having one. Wouldn't mind having the camaro either if I could ever get over the front end. I wanted it flat and not so pointed.

But I also give discredit where its due, and I'm hoping Fiat can pull crysler out of its slup. Cause as it stands now, I'd never buy a dodge anything. Their reliability is in the toilet compared to the other two, especially now with ford's reliability rating recently surpassing GM's. Too bad they both have a long way to go to catch honda and toyota.

skunksmash -good point about dodge; I watched a dodge catch fire going down the interstate today, this car started smoking a little and melted parts started dropping off of it, they pulled over as I drove by, I looked in my rearveiw mirror and the whole undercarriage burst into flames(I called the fdept). I used to just think of them as undependable.

Man that's pretty bad. I can't count the times I've seen a dodge do something that could have been easily prevented if someone over there gave a crap. This lady that works for my grandparents will only buy dodge cars (cause she says they're cheaper) and about once a month she has a new story of how her car (or truck) is messed up. And she goes through them like they're popcorn or something. Also why I'd always stay away from mitsubishi. They have the same rep and of course, dodge runs some mitsubishi motors.
