AC Compressor - Serpentine to V-belt
« on: October 07, 2011, 12:08:32 pm »
I've got a serpentine type AC compressor from a 1999 Tahoe that I would like to convert to V-Belt.  How can I do this?

For those who are wondering, I'm taking the 6.2L diesel out of my Suburban and putting it into the 1999 Tahoe.  Yes, I know that it would be best to find a serpentine setup from a 6.5L diesel 1996 and newer but those are far and few between.
1990 ¾ ton 4x4 Chevy Suburban
-Cummins Diesel - 12 valve - factory rebuilt
-6 speed bullet proof manual transmission - NV5600
-Gear Vendors Overdrive
-Upgraded Holset HX-35 turbo
-NP205 iron transfer case
-3.73 gears
-2" Lift

I don't think there is a option to use other engine pulleys other than the 6.5L.  I looked for this same info as I wanted to add AC to my CUCV 6.2L.

You could always mock up some brackets with some pulleys, but....

OK, yes they do make the compressor with either a serpentine OR a Vbelt.

The brackets ARE available.  You just need to know who sells them.  I'm unsure what I can and cannot post as far as who sells this stuff.  If you need that info, drop me a line.

Also, I own several CUCV's and one 1991 GMC Suburban.  Only the Sub has A/C because I don't want to mod mine.

But if you want, it HAS been done - guy called Devilman96 did a TON of stuff to his M1009 CUCV

here's the link over on Steel Soldiers - http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/27571-cucv-build-here-we-go-again.html

OK, then try Vintage Air.  They USED to have one that fit a diesel with two alt's.

Haven't checked lately.
