SgtDel-

You may want to search the Colt website. It seems to me I seen a recent release of a 1911 that didn't have the 1911A1 updates, but did have the series 80 firing group.

If you are wanting a shooter that would be the way to go. I wouldn't want a 1911 without the firing pin interlock, but if you are looking for a dust collector then the series 80 isn't a big deal.

Now that I think about it, it may have been one of the 100th anniversary 1911s, and I am afraid time has ran out on ordering those.

I seen a peacemaker one time in the 80's for sale and I've wanted one since i like the look of that gun.  It would be more of a wall hanger for me though.  do you guys go to gun shows a lot?  If so could I pm you about something I'm lookin for?

i wouldn't mind a peacemaker one bit.  I like history and i am partial to famous guns that were good enough to get the gov't contract.  The 1860 Colt SAA, since i love researching the civil war (i do live in VA), the 1873 Colt 45 peacemaker, the 1911 Colt .45 ACP, then the mid '80's Beretta 9mm.
It is hard to beleive the Colt 1911 was the standard issue for the military for over 70 years--up to '85 when Beretta won it with their 9mm.
I'd love to have an early version of each one of these models. My bucket list contains having one of each before they put me 6 feet under.

Yeah, Enginneer, i'd love to have an early 1911, prior to the A1 updates of 1918.  I wouldn't do much with a 100th anniv.  I do want actual history pieces and be able to shoot it at least once a year.

The agency I work with was one of the very first L.E. agencies in the U.S. to adopt the use of Glock for the primary service weapon.  Our patch is on their 2nd advertising poster for Glock and their famous slogan, "first they fired us, then they hired us".  When i first started, we still used S&W .38 spcl revolvers.  I still have my S&W model 65 (.38 spcl and 357 mag).  I started using the Glock 17 9mm.  Still have that one too, that I bought.

GTO, i do go to gun shows all the time---it's amazing the deals that can be had there.  Were retail price for new Glocks is around $600, you can buy them all day at shows for $100 less than that--Gen 4's are slightly more expensive but still cheaper on shows.  You might want to try gunbroker.com   you can learn a lot about historical weapons just plugging different models in the search browser and reading the descriptions.  I save pics to my computer of all kinds of guns i am interested in. It's fun.

Here is one I'm thinking about getting after things get back to normal for me.  I've never shot a pistol before and I was thinking this would be a good one to learn with.  It's a Ruger 22/45.  Whats your opinion on this gun for a beginner.

nothing wrong with a Ruger 22/45.  I am not a fan of the german luger design, but, Ruger liked them and started quite a company from it.
If i were to get a .22 semi auto, I think the classic 1911 design is awesom, so the Chiappa 1911-22 would be my bet. You can get them under 3 bills.  I love that you can shoot them all day for cheap, a box of 500 40 grain .22LR is about $25.
I have Winchester Lever action rifle 9422 that shoots .22 lr's and love that rifle.  Can shoot it all day.
go to gunbroker.com and plug in 'Chiappa 1911-22' they have the classic Colt 1911 look and feel.  Great for target practice.
But, for real defense, you gotta consider at least a 9mm caliber.  But, as a beginner, a .22 is great to start with and cheap.

Maybe its because I like the look of the German Luger that drew me to the Ruger 22/45.  Don't get me wrong the Chiappa 1911-22 isn't a bad looking gun either but i like the looks of the Ruger a little better.  Later on I would like to get a 9mm but for now I'm going to stick to the .22 until after my arm heals completely and I learn what all my limitations are.

Here's a good book on the history of the man, Ruger, and his company

I went to a gun show today and got a new toy.  I wanted a Colt 1911 that shoots .22 LR for a while. Well, I read about the new Colt .22 1911 and decided to go look for one at the gun show.  Sure enough, I found one.  It's now sitting right next to me on my couch.  I picked up a 500 rounds of .22 LR for $20 while i was at the show.  Man, I love gun shows.  Next gun show is in March and I may pick up an original WWI Colt 45 ACP 1911 Military issue.  I saw a bunch there today for under $2k. Yep, price is right.
There something about the classic 1911 look....

Nice. That may be my next .22 pistol. Post back on how it cycles the ammo. Most autoloader .22's I have been around have a tough time cycling the action because of the low recoil. I saw a Browning commemorative 1911 in .22lr with gold inlay at the local shop recently for $3k  :o
