Truck will not start

Truck was running fine before I left for a week to go on vacation.  When I returned the truck would not start.  It turns over fine, but doesnt try to fire.  What would be my first step?

Does it have a carburetor? If it were mine I would put some gas down it's throat and see if it goes.

Check the hot wire to your distributor. I once had a cat walk around on top of the engine and unplug it.

Thanks yall...my bad..its a 86 chevy truck....carb yes.  I will put gas inthe carb and see if it attempts to fire....Thanks.

     Just don't put too much in, or else you might have it backfire up through the carb.

Hey yall, put some gas in carb and tried fire'in up the truck.  I got nothing.  I guess my next step is to check for spark? 

What frustrates me is I replaced the distributor a last year because something like this happened before...anyways.....to check for spark i can pull one spark plug, leave wire attached and hold close to metal while starting and see if there is a spark?

Harmon, why don't you put a jumper across the ALDL terminals A to B to see if the ecm has stored any code faults? The ALDL connector is located under the left side of the dash near the steering column. A quick search on this site should get you a thread explaining how to do it. It's not difficult.
