Vector Hurricane 8lug Aluminium Wheels
« on: November 20, 2012, 10:26:09 pm »

Looking for suggestions on how best to clean these old wheels up (Uncoated / sand cast / machine finished).

I know I can acid clean them to start.   One wheels has been glass bead blasted in a small section / distorting the machined finish of the bead and outer spoke.

I bought Extra fine sand for my sand blaster but I think it may still be too abrasive.   I'm considering trying baking soda instead.  Dry air and a shaker on the hopper (strap it to the brush guard of the diesel truck / truck running will shake it).  If I can keep the diesel from breathing the baking soda this should help it to feed the blaster.

Bough new mag lug nuts & washers thru Amazon ~ 32 lug McGuard nuts still cost as much as the wheels.

Here is what some of the restored sets look like, But I don't think I want to paint mine.

The guy I sold one of my old M1028's to put some hurricanes on it.
The truck looked great with the olive drab paint and weathered rims.
When my current M1008 hits the road I have some American racing slotted rims for it.
Looking forward to seeing  pics of your truck with the rims on it.
