C notch?
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:44:43 pm »
Quick question fellas, I know a lot of you have done c notches and there are already discussions on here about it. Bit I want an opinion on my current task. I've notched my frame with 6" diameter 1/4" thick pipe and started welding it in. Question is do I need to box the backside in? And if so how big does the box need to be in length? Thanks

I usually use thicker metal for the notch, I would box it out 6" on each side

I went ahead and boxed it in with couple scrap 1/4" angle I had laying around. Figured since the notch should have been bigger I would use the angle and plate the top of the frame. I'm putting on a step side short bed next week and will modify the bed supports to make up for the extra 1/4" in height.
