Bypass and heater hoses
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:25:28 am »
Although I believe the standard is 3/4" does anyone take issue with using 5/8" hose for the bypass on a BBC?  The reason I ask is this, I have a 45˚ fitting for the intake and a nice stainless 5/8" fitting for the pump.  Sure I can go grab 3/4" fittings but I have these already so I thought I'd put them to use.  Obviously less water flow but enough to make any difference?  My thought is no but anyone disagree?

Lastly, the 5/8" hose off the intake to the heater core is the feed line and the 3/4" hose to the radiator is the return right?

If I were going to be hauling anything with it I wouldn't do it. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I was kind of under the impression that the bypass was really only there to allow coolant circulation until the thermostat opened up as to not induce hot spots in the heads.  That being said, the most this truck will haul is a yard of dirt from time to time.

Yea, your right about the bypass. I'm just one of those guys who has lived in or near the desert most of my life usually hauling a lot of weight and am always really nervous about cooling. It'll probably be fine. Like I said, just my 2 cents.
