big block install
« on: March 27, 2013, 07:50:00 am »
I am in the middle of a swap from a small b lock to a BBC in my c-10, the only problem that I'm seeing is the power brake booster being in the way for any valve train adjustments with out removing the entire booster. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I never had that problem. It is tight, a pain to get the valve cover off, but it is doable.

I have tall valve covers, and roller rockers, but no stud girdle.

The stud girdle may be the game changer.

I have the same issue with my '85 k10.

Engineer, what valve covers did you use? I do not have girdles.

The slanted cast aluminum from Summit will fit, but do not have baffles.

I have some plain tall chrome stamped steel valve covers that I bought from Jegs.

They are the cheapest valve covers in the catalog, but are made from pretty heavy steel. Probably 18ga or heavier. They do have baffles. After a while they rusted, so I sandblasted the chrome off, and repainted them with the hammered finish Rust Oleum paint in silver. They look pretty good.

Never had aluminum covers on this engine so I don't know how they will fit.

Bought a set of GM Performance cast aluminum valve covers (part # 25534374) today from Summit and they fit great. Have holes for breathers and had baffles, unlike what the website says. Now time to finish putting his hoss back together and see if she'll crank.
