drop spindles
« on: September 27, 2014, 03:29:09 pm »
Looking for some input here.I have installed Belltech 3\4 drop and having problems with the spindles .I called Belltech before I ordered and asked if they would fit with stock 8 inch  ralleys and was told yes.By the way these are for 1.25 inch rotors.I was told I may have to clearance lower a-arm some and directions show at ball joint area.

So sure enough a-arm contacted the wheel,so I got out the grinder.Got my wheels balanced and first time I made a turn the weights got knocked off.

Now the site states that they fit c10 but not c10 big ten.Not sure of the difference here as I thought all front suspension components were the same with exception of rotors and spindles to match.
Would appreciate any input here .Thanks

Put front wheel spacers on or go with bigger wheels.

I hate to say but bell tech is crap I had this prob and finally changed the a arms as grinding leaves to little a arm left and spacing causes fender rubs.
I also had to have the outter bearing turned down so it would fully seat and used extra washers on the outside, on my lastest ride I went to brand x and have had no probs, check your lower a arm bushings also that lil bit of play while turning can allow a hit, a good rod shop or yourself could and should weld some reinforcing if you remove any of the arm.

Yeah this is the problem I had to remove so much from the lower a-arms for clearance that I,m feeling a little concerned they bend or even break at the ball joint area. What ticks me off about the whole deal is I called belltech tech department and they said all is good ,just slight grinding on outer end of a-arm.Total BS.Otherwise all suspension and steering components are new

Was it 3" drop spindles?  If it was doesn't matter who makes them, you WILL have to clearance the lower control arm to clear factory wheels.
A Big10 will have 1.25" rotors by default. that is the only difference outside of the coils...

This is typical of what needs to be done on certain spindle with use of 15" wheels.  I recommend reinforcing the underside after doing this..

Yes they are 3 inch drop with 1.25 rotors.Thats what I thought ,the only difference being in rear springs for extra capacity
to get into hd emissions weight limit.Thought about plating the arms on the bottom but figured it would make it really hard
if I had to replace ball joint later.I'm thinking about getting some more arms and freshing them up and going to a 2.5 drop.
Do know of any clearance issues with those.Looking at your pic I had to go back about 1-1 1\2 inches back. Thanks for the input Capt

Shouldn't be any issues with most 2.5" spindles.
