« on: November 24, 2014, 05:47:59 pm »
Hello everyone im looking to replace the carb on my 85 its a 350 crate motor i have the edelbrock performer carb 600 cfm its the electric choke and i cant stand it, its always on the high idle when under 45° and no matter what i do its always rich so its probably getting worn out. Id like to go with a holley manuel choke, any recommendations? Part number? Where to get it?

I know this isn't what you're asking.  But I have the Edelbrock 1406 (600cfm electric choke) and it runs beautfully, even as far down as 14 degrees outside, it will kick off of high Idle once I hit the gas and the choke slowly opens to lean out the mixture as it warms.  It sounds like either yours is not kicking off of high-idle properly, or your choke isn't opening.  A new electric choke element is cheap or you can change it to manual choke.

I have had excellent luck with my 750 Holley 0-3310S. Vacuum secondary, manual choke. It is on my 454. You may be better served with a Holley 600.

Before that I ran the Quadrajet that came factory on my '77 400sb. The Quadrajet performed flawlessly for me. If I needed I could go back to it, but I have the Holley tuned to my 454, so it lives on.

My son had an Edelbrock carb and had nothing but trouble. We built him a Q-jet and he has never looked back. Everyone I know who had an Edelbrock carb had nothing but trouble with it.

There are guys on this board who can tune them, I am not one of them. Maybe one will be along soon and can advise you on your carb.

But in a nutshell, for me.........

I don't think this will resolve your issues. Did you set the choke, fast idle speed, timing and idle mixture screws?

You can buy a conversion kit for the carb and make it manual if that's what you want
