Slow getting to it but the time is getting closer...
« on: December 23, 2015, 04:38:12 pm »
I'll be having a bunch more free time starting the first of April and will finally get to working on my project that has sat now for nearly ten years. It may be close to beyond redemption but it will give me something to do. The cab is chock full of rut in some of the oddest places like the a-pillars, and most of the normal places like the floor, corners, cowl area, and fenders. Even one rear spring hanger is rusted through. Like I said, it may not even be worth trying to save cost wise, but regardless, they don't make these any more so what is here is all we'll ever have.

My questions:
about replacement body panels- I would like to know who is good better or best at supplying quality parts consistently. The thicker the better.

about suspension shackle flips- anyone used them and how do they handle overall? Anything noticeable?

about replacement glass rubbers and door seals- same question, who has quality parts?

I started updating the wiring through the firewall when I stopped working on the truck a few years ago. SO, naturally I forgot precisely where I was at. I do know I was in the process of installing a dash switch activated delay wiper system from another truck when I stopped, that's all I remember about it. Now it only has slow speed. No questions here, just thinking out loud.
I am what I am and I ain't no more!

I'm using a shackle flip on my k10. I'm not running any shocks at the moment and its a pretty soft ride lol. You are going to need a zero rate block and modify the spring plate or get a aftermarket with the required holes drilled.

Big things about the shackle flip was removing the spring bolts and rivets off the frame. Other than that it went pretty smooth.

In the new year I'm going to be getting some 56" rear springs as with the shackle mounts I got I can reverse them to run 52 or 56 springs. The 56s apparently give a even better ride.

Good to know. No shocks? Must be fun haha.

I'm stocking up on air tools, battery powered tools and big tools. When I worked at my last job in construction I had full use of the shop so I really never got my own tools...didn't plan ahead in other words. I worked there for over 20 years. So I've had to buy a welder, I'm going to need a bigger air compressor (the one I have is OK -40 gallon tank, but it's an oilless and is 15 years old), I have already gotten most of the Dewalt 20V tools I need (sawzall, right angle grinder, hammer drill, impacts, etc.), I bought a cheapo air hammer but it's a light duty short-stroke model so I'm looking for a better, heavier duty long-stroke one, and I have a few air impacts. Now all I need is a garage to work in ... can you believe I'm near sixty years old and has NEVER had a garage in my entire life??!! And I live on a farm! Not even a drive in shop...I have work in the gravel dooryard. No concrete to work on either. That is going to change ...hopefully soon. Gotta graduate first.

I ran into the same problem...I was going to put shocks on he rear of my wife's car today (no garage) but a snow storm happened. I think my window of opportunity is shrinking fast temperature wise. I'm not really interested in working outside in 20degree temps.
