Rebuild original sbc 400 or go a different route?
« on: November 03, 2016, 07:44:59 pm »
Hey guys I'm new to the site and I'm looking for help!

I'm going to start building my dads 78 k20 camper special that he bought brand new and only has 30,000 miles. It's been sitting for about 30 years. In that time the fresh newly built heads were stolen out of the cab of the truck while it was being stored at a friends lot awhile back.

My question to you is should I rebuild the original 400 or go with a 350 or something of that nature that's easier to find parts for? I'm looking for a mild street engine that's not gutless. Through my research people seem to the the 400 or hate them. Any thoughts? Thanks

If it's original, keep it that way. 400's are great if they haven't been molested by nitwits who don't know what they are doing.

If the engine only has 30,000 miles on it, then why rebuild?
