I have a 1985 c10 with a 305 and th350 and was trying to sell it until a buddy offered to flat out give me a clean 400+ hp 454 and help with the install. I really want to do it but what will i have to do do to make it fit? What parts from my 305 are compatible with the 454? Will a 454 bolt to my th350 trans? Can i use my 400cfm edelbrock carb on the 454? Will my edelbrock preformer intake bolt up? Will i have to change my gearing? Any suggestions/ideas would be fantastic.
Somebody giving you a BBC is a gift from the heavens. BUT Seeing that you have a 305 almost everything will have to be changed. The th350 will bolt up but I can tell you that poor tranny won't last long. The intake manifold won't fit, the Edelbrock carb will BUT I highly doubt a 400 cfm carb could satisfy that gas's guzzling big block. You'll need new motor mounts. Also let's say you install the 454 and use the fan shroud from the 305, make sure the fan doesn't eat up that shroud. Another thing is the big block weighs a lot more than a 305. You may want to get new front coils for the front assuming its a 2wd or new leaf springs and shocks assuming its 4wd. One thing I will say is I hope you like gas stations. I can tell you that from experience. But in the end the swap will be worth it. Once you go big block you never go back. Anyways hope this helped you, keep up updated on how this goes! Good luck
