There is another thread with the exact same question, and quite a bit of discussion. Its also useful to look at this link for the brochures, since they show what the camper special package includes.
This link would be info on my '75 camper special.
http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1975The HD package on my 3/4 ton '75 includes a 8400 GVW rating with 14 bolt FF rear axle, front anti-sway bar, larger multi-leaf springs both front and back, dual batteries with relay for camper power, etc. Mine also had larger 9.50x16.5" tires with split rims, but I have switched to load range E 245/75x16" tires, since they are much easier to find and work on.
My truck also had special brackets on the cab that connected to the camper tie-downs (not sure if they are factory) so that the cab would help keep the camper steady. I still have the brackets, but removed them when I replaced the bed a few years ago.
I was hauling old brick and concrete to the dump a couple of weeks ago, and at the scale they determined I had 2740 lbs in the bed, and a total weight of 8440 lbs. I was a little over the GVW, but even then the springs were not sagging. However, I could certainly see that the tires were heavily loaded. Despite 60 psi of pressure the sidewalls were starting to bulge (E load range tires have a max psi of 80).
