Please tell me what this is!?!

I hate to sound like a novice, but I am.  I was unhooking my trailer brake booster cables, and found the electrical was hooked to this.  But nothing else is.  Can anybody tell me what it is?

Looks like some sort of electrical booster but I really have no clue

It's the resistor for the trailer brake
