kill switch

i just recently bought a 1987 chevy custom deluxe and i was thinking about puting a kill switch in it but i am only 15 and have very little experience working on vehicles so i was wandering if any body has done this before and some tips about putting it in would be appriciated.

What kind of kill switch? The ignition switch is your kill switch.

i was thinking more on the line of anti theft so the ignition wouldnt work if u didnt flip the switch on

I don't think our trucks are too high on the desirable vehicle list for thieves.Anyone out there have a truck like ours stolen?

Well, I know around here these trucks are getting really hard to find in decent shape. It's getting rarer everyday to see a good clean restored and/or rust free truck and I could easily see somebody stealing one. It won't be long and these trucks will be in very high demand.

Well you could put an ignition kill switch but that would still allow the truck to be cranked and you would foul your plugs. Or you could put a switch in series to the starter solenoid or neutral safety switch to prevent cranking but that's easy to bypass for a decent theif.

I have often thought of puttng a anti-theft kill switch on my truck.  I was thinking one day I may run two wires from dash area to the starter solenoid. Cut the wire at the solenoid and splice the two new wires there, splice one wire onto the cut one towards the solenoid, splice the other new wire on the other part of the cut wire and throw a toggle switch under the dash somewhere hidden. She aint going nowhere then, unless it is towed.

You could do the same thing with the hot wire to distributor.  

A thief isn't gonna hang around to look for a switch or mess w/ it if it doesn't start. He'll go to the next vehicle.

Nowadays, it doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it is. With these dumb juveniles trying to go out and joy ride, they'll jump in a ford of all things if it is easy for them to get it going.

not trying to sound concieted, but i'm sure in the right place (or should i say wrong?) my truck would be stolen. im gonna put in a kill switch, and also a steering wheel adapter that without a key, will just let your steering wheel spin freely.

If that's all you are trying to do the easiest way is to put a switch in series with the park neutral switch then.

Yeah, that makes sense also.  I have replaced on of those neutral safety switches on my 79....which wire would it be to kill the power and keep it from starting? (color?)
