fuel pump/ relay problem and where is it?
« on: July 24, 2006, 09:49:00 pm »
i have a 87' c-10 i changed out my fuel pump, it worked fine then shortly after it quit. i believe i am not getting power to the fuel pump . i've tested the wiring to the sending unit and nothing no power i changed the fuse, i assume the fuel pump relay may have been damaged, in any event i am not sure where it is located. i am tempted to run a hot wire directly to the fuel pump sending unit- but afraid of blowing myself up! Could someone help , can't afford to miss no more days of work.

It may not be the relay. It may be a faulty oil pressure switch. GM designed the fuel system to automatically shut off if the oil pressure is lost. So the power to the fuel pump is tied into the oil pressure switch.

When you switch the key initially, does the pump start up and prime.  the truck has to be running for the pump to continue to run.  If you just switch the power it will start and build pressure then stop.
