305 swap to 366 hi deck engine in '86 C10 question
« on: January 24, 2007, 09:47:00 pm »
Has anyone any info on an engine swap in an '86 C10 or C20 to a 366 hi deck chevy truck engine.  I have a 350C turbo trans and 2:93 gears and I think that the 366 with the huge torque would be a great swap with decent mileage with a reasonable cost since there are millions of these with realitively low mileage in retires school busses.  Anyone with experience, etc.  Thanks Greasy Fingers!

shouldn't be much different that a passenger BBC swap.  Just drop it in.

So much for revving ability... LOL.  366 will pull your house down... it just plans on doing it at 2000 rpm's.

Pulling the house at 2000 rpm's will work great. My old '86 has 2:73 rear gears so 2000 rpm would be about right I would think at highway speed?  What would you think?  P.S. it has a 350c Turbo Hydramatic with the lockup torque converter so there would be a 1 to1 through the Trans.  Would anyone hazard a guess as to the mileage on this setup??  Interesting project it would seem to me. - Greasy Fingers.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

The 12" torque converter will not fit inside the TH350 bellhousing.  Everything else is the same as a normal BB to SBC conversion, make sure to get all the accessory brackets from the Tall Deck 366 Bus engine.
