I Need A Box
« on: August 20, 2006, 07:00:00 pm »
I am in the process of designing a sound system for my
'86 C-10 swb, and I need to build a box to hold a 10" sub.  Does anyone have any dimensions?  Thanks

I'm looking also.
I am currently running the wires, and waiting to get a head unit and some components to go into kick panels. I have a couple of amps and a pair of bazook 8", but I don't like the way they fit.

41" X 14" X 6.5" X 3.5" and then youll have room for 3- 10"s

With those dimensions, is there a need to move the seat up?  Or is this with the seat all the way back?  Thanks for the dimensions.

I just built a pair for my 85 K20 and they allow my seat to go all the way back and are wicked. It feels like a slap on your back and I tried them ported and non ported. The non ported sounded crisper and more defined squashed behind the seat so I kept them in there that way. If I get a free moment I'll post pix and dimensions.

Did you use a shallow mount sub, or just a normal sub? Shallow mounts typically need only 2.5" of depth to mount.

I made mine so the sub has about 1/8" between the back of the box and the speaker so I don't lose any seat clearance. These trucks already have crap for room between the seat and the column even with tilt and a smaller wheel so keeping it tight was the most important thing to do for me. I just got a decent set of subs not those extra deep ones and my system rips. It's loud enough to make you have to turn it down and believe me I like it loud. I've been playing in aband since I was 14 :lol

I just made a scale drawing of that box, and it looks like I could only use a sub that's 4" deep or maybe just a hair over that.  What brand did you use?

I just installed an alipine type R in my '85. The box is 24x15x4x8. The seat will go all the way back and just barely touch the top edge of the sub. I had to make a 3/4" ring to mount the sub though. I'll get a picture of it today.
