TV cable adjustment
« on: August 27, 2007, 06:38:32 am »
Hi
I am trying to adjust the TV cable after a engine replacement in my 90 Suburban, I followed the instructions found here http://www.thirdgen.org/detent I have adjust the TV cable like this before and it worked just fine but when I adjust it by sliding the cable assembly all the way back so its flush with the mounting tab the move the throttle wide open the adjuster does not move or click.

Directions:
Once the hood is open and the engine cool, locate the TV detent assembly. Push in on the metal tang (B), and slide cable assembly (D) all the way back so its flush with the mounting tab (C), and release metal tang (B). Grab ahold of throttle lever (E) and move in direction of arrow all the way to WOT, you should hear a series of clicks. Release and you're all done..

Suggestions or ideas?

Thanks in advance..

Do you feel tension on the cable when you pull on it? Meaning is it hooked up inside the trans? If so drive it. You may have the correct adjustment right there. If it shifts too late manually move the plunger away from the fire wall 1 click at a time til it shifts the way you like it.

Yes I feel tension, it just wont click and auto adjust, I did disconnect it and spray with silicone spray and adjust it a few times from one end to the other then reinstalled and tried again it would not move so I pushed in on the button and held the throttle wide open and released the button but it upshifts to fast and does not down shift so I know its not set right.

I guess at this point I will start adjusting a few notches at a time and test driving?

I thought maybe someone else ran into the auto adjust not working before.

Thanks.
