Are you talking about a 400 small block? Sounds like a recipe for disaster lol

What kind of pistons are in it?  What kind of stock heads?  Was it built to handle NOS?

forged pistons, head casting numbers are 388997, it will take 150 shot no problem, what about the rest of the combo, yes 400 small block ,400 30 over =406

If you are hellbent on N2O I would suggest putting in an MSD distributor and ignition system. Bump your Compression ratio down too 8.5:1 to 9.0:1 Get some better big valve heads with screw in studs & guide plates. A nice set of roller rockers. Headers are a must along with a good exhaust system. As far the intake goes for the 400 I would stick to the dual plane manifold if you are doing street driving. the single plane may improve #'s on the dyno @ WOT but in practicality I would recommend a good dual plane. Either Weiand or Edelbrock would be my first choice. Here's a better cam for the $ http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2DK1108&autoview=sku But your heads are something you need to figure out first. Figure your Compression Ratio and what size chambers you need. Go with some good large runner heads.

warewolf if this chevy cant handle 150 shot it will be back to ford for me, i have a 521 ci ford i give 500 shot to all the time ,this is my first chev biuld so lets have input on the combo i proposed  and make this motor work, my goal is to get this truck to mid 11-s, and still drive on street, heads have beeen ported and are suposed to support 450 hp easy. that cam looks pretty rank for street ,you think ?

a 400 small block's not a good choice for nitrous because the cylinder walls are VERY thin, the machine shop here won't bore a 400 for you unless they're going to resleeve it, and IIRC, the water jackets are smaller as well, so it will tend to run awfully hot if you run a lean nitrous mixture. a 350 SB, or any big block will handle it easily. If you're set on using nitrous on a 400, do everything Vile suggested, I would be more firm on keeping the c/r down to 8.5:1, and be sure to use a wet kit, and run the fuel/n20 mixture rich on fuel, too lean and you'll be kissing that 400 goodbye in one or two shots. Also, get either a 4 core radiator or one of those spiffy aluminum large core radiators, a high volume water pump, and I would even consider running it w/o a thermostat anytime you think you MIGHT use the n20. I'd probably add an engine oil cooler as well. Plan on running 93+ octane fuel.

If you want that truck to get down into the 11s, start by shaving all the weight you can..fiberglass hood, bucket seats so you can remove all but the drivers seat before a race, fiberglass roll pans instead of bumpers, etc.. weight reduction is free power.

You are going to have to have 600rwhp to get a 4000lb truck into the low 12's, that's close to 700 at the flywheel, or in your case 550hp if you are relying on spray.

Stock 400 heads are going to kill your breathing and power, and if you want it in the 11's you are going to have to sacrifice drivability if you're doing all of it on the motor.  I would consider the came Vile suggested or bigger if you 1st goal is mid 11's.  Of course once you make all this power, then you have to put it on the ground....
