Should I Replace My Gas Tanks
« on: January 15, 2008, 02:09:54 AM »
I am putting a new create 350 in my truck along with new headers and exhaust. The original gas tanks are on the truck and just wondering if I should replace them as well? Any rule of thumb here relating to performance of the engine running clean or nothing to be concerned about with 32 year old gas tanks.

Personally, I'd replace em with some polyethylene tanks. They're lighter and wont rust.

I wouldn't unless there is good reason to.  If they hold gas they should be fine.  If they have been sitting around empty and gathering condensation and rusting, then I would probably replace them.

If you clean them out use Fantastic or something similar to also get rid of mildew

I would have to agree with Captkaos.

They have been sitting since the body work has been going on which has been about 8 months. So maybe i should just clean out the tanks of the old gas and they should be fine right?

8 months isn't long.  were they closed up and inside out of the weather, if so, clean them out and let it go...
