Is this a stock piece of suspension?
« on: December 28, 2007, 06:58:17 pm »
The rear of my 1980 SWB with "Heavy Duty" suspension is really really low.  It actually sits lower than the front.  Looking at the suspension, I noticed the rear springs were attached at the back of the frame with this part (pictured).  This part seems much different than the part on my 76 chevy.  It also has different holes in it, leading me to think it might be adjustable.  Of course, I could just be a complete idiot...

Thanks,

T.J.

That is not stock. That is a lowering shackle. You can not adjust it down because the shackle tapers in as it goes down so the spring will not fit.
GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUTUP, AND HANG ON

looks like it's adjustable for 1" or 2". you might be able to move it down 1 hole, but that'll only raise the back 1". weird that the bedrail isn't right above it though...i thought they all were?

Yeah, I noticed that the bedrail wasn't above it as well.  Could it have something to do with the fact that my truck is a shortbed?  I took a look at my dad's '76 long bed today and his bedrail is right above his shackle.  I'm not going to adjust it.  I'll just have to find some stock shackels and replace them.

What do you want? Stock Shackles or lowering shackles?

I need stock.  It has lowering shackles already that were put on by the previous owner.  I'm trying to take this truck back to original.

Thanks,
T.J.

I just saw they're only $17 bucks new... you might just want to get new ones. http://www.classicparts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=74-044
