cheap sound deadening for cab floor?
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:56:58 pm »
I just got my bench seat recovered and have my vinyl cab flooring out right now.  I'm looking to make the cab as quiet as possible as cheap as I can.  Any suggestions?

Has anyone used herculiner or a bedliner product on the cab floor?
I've thought about that white asphalt roofing stuff, has anyone used anything like that?

Is this gonna stink up the cab when it gets 90-100 degrees?  :-\

I was thinking of putting down a layer of bedliner/white asphalt roofing stuff, then some carpet pad I have laying around, then plastic sheeting (to make sure water doesn't get to the pad where it would soak it up, maybe some more bedliner/white asphalf stuff then the old vinyl flooring

Some sound comp guys use "peel n seal" from home depot/lowes when they're on a budget, some have problems with odor and some dont. In the cab, I'd bet you would. A bed liner would help a little, but don't expect a miracle. Cheapest route that would still work REALLY well, would be 1-3 coats of e-dead v3..its sold by the gallon and works wonders when applied properly. IIRC its only like $45-$55 per gallon.

I did my cab floor in 1/2" carpet underlay. Get it at any Home Depot. Made a nicely noticeable difference. Cost was less than $20.

What about actual asphalt shingles? Maybe roll roofing? It's just like the stuff I've seen bonded to floors from the factory. It's already cured so it wouldn't stink, it would insulate from heat and sound. And it would be CHEAP!!!! Paint or coat the floor with whatever you want, lay in the shingle material, go with some thin carpet insulation over it and then your carpet. Maybe?
UH-OH  I'M GONNA NEED A BIGGER BANDAID!!!!!
