th350 to th400

I got a '76 GMC w/350 engine. The th350 went bad, should I....
     A) Put in the rebuilt th400 that I have and buy the universal conversion kit?

   or

    B) Buy a rebuilt th350 and keep on kicking?

I got the money for both, but I was told that the th350 works harder or just as hard as the th400? Is this true?
What harm would it do to put the th400 in?

There's no harm in putting in the TH400 it's just a more heavy duty transmission. If you take care of a TH400 it will never let you down.

I forgot to mention that my th350 is a long tail, but the th400 is short tail.

Does this pose a major problem? or Can I just buy the conversion u-joint that was suggested on this site?

If you're installing a shorter tail from say 9" in length difference you have to make up for it. That means longer driveshaft.
