Wow, Don. I keep my camping trips simple. I know you may not have much of a choice w/ mother in law, etc. But, I would say you were very fortunate. ( I tend to see the bottle as half full, rather than half empty). You used your noggin and let the storm pass. Don't take life for granted.
And for the lightning, wow, that could have been much worse.
Next time get your wife a hotel.
I just got back from a trip to the outer banks of north carolina and loved it. Stayed in Kitty Hawk N.C. and drove on the beach most of the way down to Cape Hatteras. My son saw the ocean for the first time in his young life. There's nothing like taking your 4x4 down to the ocean and throwing out a couple of lawn chairs next to it watching the waves and listening Jimmy Buffett explain that it's 5 o'clock somewhere. Oh, yeah, with a cold one in your hand.
