Glad THAT Vacation's Over!
« on: October 09, 2006, 01:45:00 pm »
What started out as a vacation turned into a trip from @#%$ this past month. Every year  I take my 5th wheel to Ohio so wifey can stay there for a couple of months to care for her ailing mother. I return home to work and go back and get her in the fall. So I took off to pick her up on Sept 28 and ran into a whale of a storm in Kentucky near Elizabethtown - I thought mt truck was going to get blown over and had to wait it out in a rest area. Good thing too- 2 miles up the road a young mother had been blown over  the side of the road down into a river. Killed her and her 9 year old daughter.Total of 9 people killed by that storm. It flooded E-Town.
Got to Ohio, rested a day, and couldn't move the 2nd day through the rest of the week! I had reinjured my sciatic nerve from some heavy lifting I did during my last day at work! Then, on Saturday night at the end of that wonderful 1st week, a big time electrical storm came through and a nearby power pole servicing the camper got hit by    lightening!  Making a long story short, it did  over $4200 damage to the camper's wiring and appliances. So we got that fixed up and the next day headed back home to Tenn, where, south of Columbus, we blew out a brand new tire on the camper!!! That's the 2nd time I've had a blowout with perfectly good (well they looked good) Goodyear Marathon  tires on my camper.  I think I'm done with Goodyear Marathons.
 So how's your summer been?:\

Somedays it doesn't pay to get out of bed. I have times like this every once in a while. At least you can be thankful you made it home alive. Sounds like the grim reaper was right on your tail the whole trip. That's sad to hear about the mother and daughter. Hope things get better for you.

Wow, Don.  I keep my camping trips simple. I know you may not have much of a choice w/ mother in law, etc. But, I would say you were very fortunate. ( I tend to see the bottle as half full, rather than half empty).  You used your noggin and let the storm pass.  Don't take life for granted.

And for the lightning, wow, that could have been much worse.

Next time get your wife a hotel.

I just got back from a trip to the outer banks of north carolina and loved it. Stayed in Kitty Hawk N.C. and drove on the beach most of the way down to Cape Hatteras. My son saw the ocean for the first time in his young life.  There's nothing like taking your 4x4 down to the ocean and throwing out a couple of lawn chairs next to it watching the waves and listening Jimmy Buffett explain that it's 5 o'clock somewhere.  Oh, yeah, with a cold one in your hand.
