15" to 16" on Burb questions
« on: July 01, 2008, 09:54:45 pm »
ok, I bought- at a good price- a set of AR baja's in 16x8 to go on my 91 Burb.  I thought they would fit, however, they hit the caliper and are too close to tie rod- I think they're 4.5 BS with 0 offset.  I want to get rid of the 15 wheels and 32x11.50's- cause I think a C load range isn't enough for a truck this heavy, especially when loaded with people (as mine will be frequently) and stuff, and certainly when this is combined with towing my 4500# travel trailer.

Anybody what BS and offset will work to put a 16x8 on?  and anybody know if a 285 tire will fit w/stock suspension (4wd), or is the 265 gonna be all it'll handle.  it has nearly new 32x11.50 MT's now with no rub problem at all.  I like the stuffed fender look, and won't be doing any off-roading.

Honestly, I wouldn't concern myself with the load rating, I wear tread out on new tires long before they break down from excessive load, and I frequently loaded more than three times the combined weight rating for the back two tires on my old truck, and thats just the weight that went in the bed, not counting the trailer that was frequently pulled behind it..If you're going to be running 85+ mph with that trailer on it, for several hundred mile trips, then I might actually give it a small amount of thought because of heat, but you're more likely to have a trailer tire fail at that speed than a truck tire.

285 should the tallest you would be able to get on your truck, without doing a Body or Suspension lift first(atleast that is what I was told when I last checked out tires 3mos ago)....

16's should fit fine on there with 4.5" backspacing.  Factory wheels were 15" with 4" backspacing.

well, maybe they should, but they surely don't.  hit both tie rod and caliper.

Is it the Tire that is hitting the Caliper??? The rim should have plenty of clearance, unless the Brakes were upgraded, or the Rims aren't the proper size.....

How can they have a zero offset with 4.5" backspacing and be 8" wide?

that's what i got from the AR website with the part number.  offset and BS aren't the same thing.  i bought these from someone- thinking they would fit, they will fit my 99 Z71.  w/o tires mounted, i tried to bolt up a wheel- and it hits.

If you had 4.5" backspacing with a zero offset that would be a 9" wide rim not 8"

How much more clearance do you need? If it's just a little bit you can use some wheel spacers.
