3-Speed Clutch
« on: August 21, 2008, 12:20:57 pm »
Hello all,
I have another question. The clutch in my 77 with a 250 and a 3-speed doesn't catch until the pedal is almost all the way out. The clutch doesn't slip at all, but it just seems like I should have more pedal, like it should catch about half way up. Would this be a sign of a clutch/pressureplate/throw-out bearing issue, or is there some way of adjusting where the clutch catches?

This is by design.  The pedal should have about 2" of play before engaging.

The free play at the top of the pedal seems Ok.

Anyone happen to have any kind of instructions/diagram of a clutch removal installation for the three speed? Maybe somewhere on-line where I could find something? I'd like to have an idea of exactly what I will be doing/looking for before I get started.

Thanks a bunch

Remove rear u-joints, remove driveshaft, disconnect shifter, unbolt trans crossmember from the truck, unbolt trans from crossmember, unbolt trans from bellhousing, set it on you chest and roll it off, then unhook the clutch for aparatus and unbolt the bellhousing.
