Where does the AC belt run?
« on: August 28, 2008, 09:42:05 am »
How many pulleys does the air conditioning belt go around on an 87 Silverado 1/2 ton 2WD? It looks like there are 4 pulleys that it goes around but i am hoping it's only 3. It looks like it goes around the crank pulley, the power steering pulley, the water pump pulley, and then of course the air conditioning compressor pulley. The belt i got from O'rielly's is 40" long. I was just kinda hoping someone here knew for sure. There are 4 extra places that a belt could go on all 4 pulleys.  :-[

run a string around all of your aligned pulleys then measure the string. Compare this measurement to the available listings for your application.

It goes around 4 pulleys; the a/c, the power steering, the crank and the water pump pulleys. See if the string measures 42". My belt says 15560___11AV1420.
Can't see the belt mfr. name.

Goes over 4 pulleys like above ^^^.  It goes in the front groove in the power steering pump, and the rear groove in the waterpump pulley.

Thanks for the replies. That string idea is a good idea. DnStClr, is your truck still that color? Mine is lol. But im going to paint it something else.

But unfortunatly, it looks like i am going to have to take every other belt off to get this one on. Dang non serpentine setups...

Uh It's been awhile since I had to decode belts, but Generally the 15560 would denote a 56" Belt, and not a 42 incher....  The 11AV1420 should denote the Metric conversion of said belt...  15560's would be a Dayco Belt here in the States, and a Canadian Tire up Nort..

Awesome, Dragon. I didn't think that the 2 sets of number were American/Metric. Looks like that 40" belt from Oreillys needs to go back for sure-

Yes. I just got the truck in July and need to start improvements soon. I wanted to get it repainted a ligonberry red color but this tutone isn't really too bad and would be cheaper by far just to repaint the scraped and scratched spots.. :D

Ligonberry red over a gold coat- I love this truck! (It's not my Truck)

WOW That is a Beautiful Color :o :o :o 8) 8) 8)  Yeah most Companies decided it would be a good idea to just stamp the American/Metric, as they had way too many of their Vendors Compalining about trying to make the various conversions(Been there done that more than enough times, when trying to figure out a Vintage Belt a Customer brought in for comparison).... :D   I want to say that the 40" was for an Accessory, either the Alt/PS Pump, to Crank/Water Pump....

I am thinking of some kind of black. Like a really glossy piano black finish, or even a flat black. Only problem is unless the car is new, most people will associate a flat black with a P.O.S

Nah not much anymore, that is pretty much the trend for anything now....

From a Ol' Skool Rod/Factory Concept/High-End Sports/SuperCar/ to a Lone Lil' skate' they are acceptible when done right...

Take your Pick, Personally Satin has always been, and always will be a Fav of Mine!!! 8) 8) 8)  I know what I plan on doing with my Truck, and the added accents to go along with it... ;)
