Laskik surgery
« on: January 11, 2009, 09:46:37 pm »
I had Lasik done about 5 yrs ago best thing I ever did. Truth is though just plan on going home and going to bed when you wake up things will be a bit fuzzy but it starts to clear up better by the next morning. Mostly things appeared to look as if you had rain on your windshield and on coming lights like a star effect but once its done its great. I wore glasses since I was 5 yrs old and haven't had to have anything since. Its not real painful just real uncompfortable when they do it if you've ever had your pupils dialated to me that was the worst part. Good luck with it I'm sure you'll be happy with the difference.

I had the Lasik done also and like he said its the best thing I ever did. Not to have to mess with contacts and glasses is the best. Good luck with it and I know you'll love it.

Thanks guys. I am hoping it rememdies my need for contacts/glasses. It is so annoying and after all these years I'm ready to throw them away!

Sorry to hear about your foot.  I have had glasses since I was 12 and got contacts (hard) when I was 13.  I am to chicken to do the Lasik.  Funny you are still making progress even while you are down, that is some determination.

man this went way off kilter

haha i was watching "the doctors" the other day and they said not to get it until after age 35 if youre contemplating it, from 30-40 is when mens vision starts to go naturally and if you get it done to soon, youll have to get it done again.

Well I had the consultation yesterday. It took 3 hours. The sales pitch started at about $4K and when I left it was at $2500. Ridiculous that it was like buying a new car. That is with their brand new laser so I will decide by next week. My eyes are still dialated and I feel like I'm drunk.

I think mine was around $1500. each but that was also for a life time warranty if I ever have problems again they are covered. It was also about 5 years ago. I love it though totally worth it. Told ya having your pupils dialated is the worst.

I had it done too.

Mine was back in jan. '03.  I have been nearsighted all my life, first realized it when I played little league baseball--couldn't catch or hit the ball.  ;D

Got glasses, then I became the best player on the team!  Hit triples and HR's each  and every time when I could finally see!

Anyway, it was always a pain in my high school and college running days...glasses kept messing up and soft contacts kept slipping and stuff.  Got tired of wearing those extended wear contacts.  I thought about the predecessor of the lasik many moons ago called RK surgery.  I put it off.  Glad I did.

Lasik was absolutley painless.  The doc gave a small valium pill in case one's nerves kicks into overdrive.  You cannot, repeat, cannot move once you are on the table for the procedure or you will get a hole burned into your forehead.

I guess the worst part is smelling the smoke of your burning corneas.  That kinda gets you thinking.  But, the procedure only lasted about 10 minutes. Watch the blinking red dot....that's all ya gotta do. At least for the machine they use on me.

You are supposed to keep your eyes closed for about 5 hours or so after the procedure.  But, I couldn't help it, I had to peak an hour later and man, was that a feeling!  I could see! No contacts, no glasses.

I have no side effects at all.  I can only say good things about it. Except, it does nothing for aging eyes, meaning, I will still need reading glasses one day because of the aging of the lens for focusing.  When you are nearsighted, you don't have to worry about reading up close, just can't see far away.  Well, when they correctd nearsightedness, i am like everyone else approaching 40 and after, sometimes I can't see the small print on bottles, or other items without reading glasses.

Anyway, no starburst or other weird night shows like they said was gonna happen.  Street lights still look like street lights.

I recommend it to anyone.  I spent about $2k and it is the best thing I ever bought myself.

Wish I was a candidate for it, my eyes are not bad enough.  I know several folks personally who said they love it.
