C30 Dually - Adjustable ride height; keeping capacity?
« on: March 09, 2009, 09:34:28 pm »
G'day all,

76 C30 Crewcab dually... Building it specifically to our needs for hauling the camper... Debating one item on the wish list - adjustable ride height.

Ideally would like to be able to drop about 2" for the highway legs, then go 2" lift for those logging road / offroad sections (kinda like those new landrovers). Of course the camper weighs 1800lbs - so can't really loose any capacity...

Is there a way to do this - without completely screwing up alignment angles while doing so?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

If it's a solid axle it won't make a huge ordeal. Have you considered air springs?

Any time an independent front end ride height is changed, the angles will change too.  you just have to pick a ride height to have the front end aligned at and that will be the only ride height it's correct at.  I'd set it at your street height as being on dirt won't wear the tires like being on asphalt will, and it should be fine.  check around for air bag setups.  They have them in huge capacities, afterall that's what tractor trailers use.

I agree, just get airbags and set them to the highway height you want and then allow for the extra height with more pressure.
