4x4 tire delima
« on: January 20, 2009, 06:02:59 pm »
I am trying to figure out what tires I want for my rig. 80 k10 with small block,350 turbo and 205 case.
I curently have mickey radial claws now I seem to like them but they are pricey. I have been leaning to the Dayton Timberline MT tire, friend from work has them on a Jeep and reallys likes how they perform. General Grabber MT have caught my eye as well
Looking to spend around 100-180 per tire

what you 4x4 guys running and how do they work for you?

What size tires? What do you use the truck for? Do you go off roading and want a mud tire? Do you want an all terrain? Do you want a highway friendly tire?

I worked at a farm store for a while before i got my new job and I was the tire man there.  Timberline is made by the same company that made our tires that we had( Widetrack Baja MT's). The tread pattern is very similar. Alot of people were happy with them but they would wear quickly if not taken care of and rotated properly. also make sure your front end is aligned properly cause they would wear terrible if not. I also had a friend that had a set of 31" timberline mt's on his tacoma that only lasted a year. so if you get them, take care of them.

Sorry, 33x12.50 15 on 8 inch wheels. I want to be able to go out and hit trails and not worry about my tires failing me. My drive to work is only 3 miles round trip so no worries there. I defiently want longevity in the tires. i suppose a all terrain would probably get the job done.

You cant go wrong with Buckshots! We have them on our trucks at work (Land Between the Lakes, Western KY) and those tires definetly get the job done for us. We have them mounted on our 3/4 tons and our duallys front and rear. And, they arent that pricey either.

i had yokohoma geolander m/t's on my old toyota tacoma.  i loved those tires.   at the time i was doing a fair ammount of offroad, which justified the tires.   they weren't that pricey, maybe 130 a tire when i bought them,  they are now ike 147 or so.   they only lasted 25k, and they are directionals, something to think about.  on the road they gripped great, offraod they were the closest thing to boggers that weren't, and went anywhere.

right now i am running goodyear wrangler t/d's.  haven't done much offroad with them, but they are great on road.   pretty aggressive tread too.

Hi, I put a set of the Timberline MTs on my 78 K-10 and think they do great. I have had it in all kinds of slop and not had any problems. I don't run the truck on pavement alot but I agree..... make sure it's aligned and rotate them often.

I saw a set that came off of an f-150 and they wore terrible! I realize it was a ford and they eat tires anyhow but they need to be taken care of regardless.

we have a 1985 K10 with a 95 6.5 turbo diesel, for the last 4 years we have been running on a set of Goodyear 33/1250 MTR's on 8/15 rims.  I love these tires, our truck tracks like it on rails in the snow, handles mud dirt & gravel well, and has good street manners including wet roads.  Hwy noise is not bad and the wear very well. and we still get up to 21 mpg.  They are a little pricy but seem to last long.  I estimate that they have about 40,000 miles on them and still have better than 50 tread depth.

my 2 cents

I am looking forward to buying 36in TSL Mud Boggers this spring, but they are out of your 100-150 price range.  Here in Alaska I found a set for 1,050
