is changing a cab easy or hard?
« on: April 06, 2009, 06:14:36 pm »
i might be getting an 84 gmc 3/4 ton 4wd parts truck...the cab is all rotted out so i was thinking of taking the cab from my current truck and putting it on this frame because its 4wd...does anyone have any pics of what needs to be taken off or the steps to remove and install a cab?

It is pretty simple, but a large undertaking. Kind of a double negative there! It can be done with a decent set of hand tools, plenty of weasel pee, some brute force and ignorance. Oh yeah, and several friends if you don't have a way to lift the cab. Four bolts for the mounts, two more for the core support, steering column, brake lines, wiring, shift linkage and or clutch line / linkage are the basics.
If your two wheel drive in an auto trans you will need to cut out the center floor hump and use the one from the 4x4.
If one is standard and the other auto you will need to do some switching around there possibly.
If one or the other has dual tanks you will have to deal with that.

ya my truck is 2wd...so what your saying is if i used my cab i would have to change the middle section of the floor because a cab from a 4wd is different?.....what about the junction block do you have to plug the wires in certain spots? or does anyone have a diagram of it

If you're taking the cab use the harness from the cab you are taking.

An empty cab without seat, glass etc. probably weighs more than a bed.
