oil sensor
« on: April 11, 2009, 09:30:58 pm »
I've put new head gaskets on my 1983 truck and i got the heads and intake back on but i forgot to put the oil sensor and there is not enough clearance to put it back on with the intake on is there a tool or something to put it back on so i don't have to take the intake back off and have to buy new gaskets again.

Thanks

temp sensor should be down by the spark plugs, between #1 and #3
Oil sender is up near the distributor.
I guess it depends on the kind of motor.

You might have an oil passage just above the oil filter mounting area. It will probably have a plug in it but it is in the oil galley and under pressure. I'm not sure if all smallblocks have them but every one I ever had did.

It the oil sensor on on top of the block to the left of the distributor.  I replaced the head gaskets and put the intake back on but forgot to put the oil sensor back on not enough clearance to get it back on with the intake on

I understand that what I'm telling you is there is another place to install the oil sensor so you won't have to take the intake back off.

I see the title of this thread was changed  ;D

Yeah, oil sender.  Do you have a salvage yard nearby?  reason I ask is that i have seen some sbc's have an extention, about two or three inches long, and the sender is threaded onto the extension.  I dunno if that'l help or not, may still be hard to get the extension in, not sure. I'd look at other setups.

The oil pressure sending unit used a brass tee and extension.

Why did you have to remove the oil sender in the first place?  I've removed my intake twice and never touched the extension and tee Vile refered to.  Did you have the sender screwed directly to the block and now the body of the sender hits the manifold?  If so, try and find an extension.

Actually unless it used a switch and sending unit it'll be an elbow and not a tee. Yes you can also tap in down near the oil filter and plug the one behind the intake.
