grounded out alternator - wont start
« on: April 22, 2009, 08:07:31 pm »
long story short one of the spaghetti mess of wires under my hood, specifically the one that bolts to the back of the alternator grounded out. ignition does nothing now, where should i start to remedy the situation?

i went to turn it over, it made maybe half a crank, stopped and a puff of smoke came out from under the hood through the windshield vents.
the ignition when turned over doesnt even make the buzzer sound. my head and taillights still work, turn signals dont, tells me something in the ignition is borked.

help!?!?!?!?! lol

You burned your fusible link. Check off of the junction block on the firewall and down at the starter solenoid.

fix the grounded wire. Jumper the faulty fuse link to get it home. Then replace the fusible links.

k i got it all figured out in theory, but the two wires on the b terminal have what appear to be fuse holder type devices on them, is that what the fusible link wire replaces? or is that whole wire trashed.

Maybe someone replaced your fusible links with inline fuses? You should put fusible links back in.
