Nascar's Kevin Grubb dead of suicide
« on: May 07, 2009, 05:02:35 pm »
Kevin Grubb, former Nationwide series driver who was suspended three years ago for refusing a drug test, killed himself just up the road from me at a local hotel.

Everyone around here knows his family and his dad's company.  He and his brother Wayne had what appeared promising careers in Nascar 3 or 4 years ago.

yep, very selfish and his family is a well-to-do and respected family around here, his granddad starting quite a business of heavy machinery (cranes, dozers, etc...) and excavations.  His dad had finananced his and his brother's racing teams to get their feet in the door of the big leagues.  They seemed to be doing well early in the decade, but, as soon as kevin was caught with a substance in his blood after a Richmond race, then put on probation with Nascar, then later refusing a test, it all went downhill.  Drugs are a terrible thing. I don't know if he was clear of his habit or not, probably not because he had such a life to live. I can see a 16 yr old adolescent doing this, but not a 31 year old. It is a shame.

A guy I worked with got caught stealing from the company and decided to off himself last year. He left behind 5 KIDS and a wife. I lost all respect for him and feel no sorrow for people that kill themselves.

Well better to succeed than not, be a vegitable, and a burden to his family. Anyone thats says it has not crossed their mind at some point in their life is a lier.
Would never ever do that to my loved ones. But at one point in my life as an adolescent It crossed my mind.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

i agree, I beleive it crosses everyone's mind.  Teenage suicide is always increasing.  That makes this the more of a mystery, the dude was 31.  But it is very selfish.

I council youth on a regular basis about suicide.  It is abundant. Alot of thoughts are if they kill themselves its like they have this idea that they will get to see thier family suffering and being punished for doing them wrong. Some think no one would miss them. I would bet 90 percent or more of all teens have or will consider suicide. I caution all of you parents to have a discussion about this subject with you kids. If you dont know what to say, research it and find out. Keep communications open with your kids, and remember, you were a kid at one time. Things really havent changed alot other than entertainment. We raced bikes, and played outside. They play video games, and have cell phone to talk with their friends. The drugs, alocohol, guns at school, peer pressure, etc really hasnt changed alot over the last 20 years. I say talk to your kids about it and keep the communications open, is because the majority of youth I have seen commit suicide had no previous discussions about it. No one knew anything was wrong, they thought it was just normal teenage depression. Your kid cannot be afraid to come to you about anything. If you blowup because they ran the car out of gas, do you think they will come to you when they feel no one cares about you.
It is equally sad when an adult does this. There is family that suffers because someone got selfish. It show to me that they who commit suicide, dont care about anyone else. I, like Ville, have no pity or sorrow for them. I do have sorrow for their family.

Our youth is different, they have so many things going on and have not matured enough to know what to worry about and what not to worry about. Talk to them, be their friends. You may not always like what you hear, if so correct it in a way that they wont fear coming back. Sometimes a simple "dont do that"  will work, but make it firm. Get involved.
