very sorry for your loss...but keep special eye on the craigslist ads for all the sections/towns in your state. the thieves might post a phone number that you might recognize or you could have a friend go and check out the "parts" they are offering and they might be yours.

Well, the frame from my 87 showed up in a junkyard in Apache Junction, just about 10 miles from my house and 20 from the shop, it was easy to tell because the scrap tubing 4 link bars. The cab is nowhere to be found yet and Brians truck is probably history. At least I got half of mine back.

They should and the junk yard should have record of where it came from.

The junkyard said they took it in trade for another frame, no documentation, a good ole boy's yard. The cops say the value is less than $500 and don't want to print it. I'm starting to get really upset with the cops lack of interest in this, they're saying I should be happy to have it back, and I am, but the rest of my truck would be nice too.

Sorry to hear this.

Did your buddies truck have good insurance on it ?
I would think his insurance would make a stink about not printing your frame to catch the guys that stole your buddies truck

That's beside the point.  The thugs will do it again, and again, and again.  It doesn't matter the value of the present crime. the deal is to get them off the street so that they won't continue to create havoc and steal20 more vehicles over time--now's the time to get them and I bet if the prints are run through NCIC database, it will show a match because this probably isn't the first crime they've been involved in.  It is stupid to say it is only worth $500....the criminals will strike again like all thugs. GEEZE!  And, another benefit of printing is to be able to interrogate them about the other truck--that's over $500---the whole act is a felony--grand auto theft.

I hope the next crime they do is against the cop who told you that.  They could've gotten him/them off the street.

There should be some state law that if pieces of vehicles come in, since the chances are great they came from a chop shop, that the shop should have to record the driver's license number or at least the license plate of the transporting vehicle that brought the pieces there.   But no, the legislature wants to pass stupid laws about vehicle height and roll pans.

I am running for the next U.S. President, anyone wanna vote for me?

Why do the cops say the value is less than $500? Tell them it was worth $15,000

I take vehicle body's and frames to the junkyard often so they have my license on file. In Mass you need to show an ID to drop off scrap at the yard. Sounds like this junkyard is on the shady side.

I talked to the owner of the yard, I've done alot of business with him in the last couple years, he said he'd never seen the guy before, but would definatly remember him if he see's him again. He said he'll call if the guy comes through again. He's also offering me a cab I dropped off on him 6 months ago to play with, I want to tell him I want a Blazer he's got in the back... I wonder if he'll go for it.

And I'll vote for you too Sarge, if I'm not gone on murder charges  ;)

I wouldn't call the yard shady, Its more like they're stuck in the Andy Griffith days, still I got my frame back, I'm suprised the cops wouldn't print the truck too, the powder coat on my buddies truck is worth more than $500, heck his rear link system is 800 off the shelf... Is it bad that I care more about getting the 73 back than my own cab and clip?

Didn't mean to offend anyone by calling the yard owners shady. Sounds like things are a little more relaxed out west than they are here in Mass as far as the paperwork goes at the yard. Glad to hear you got the frame back, hopefully you get the blazer too.
The killer is that scrap is at $70 a ton. Think about it, the thieves may have put an end to your project all over about $150 in scrap.
