74 3/4 rearend
« on: June 25, 2009, 11:48:18 pm »
Howdy Everyone,
I am new to this forum but here is my problem.
I have a 74 3/4  4 wheel drive with 13 inch rear brakes. This truck is my work truck.Mostly woodhauler and tow truck.
After years of working hard. The back brakes need redone and new hub seals.
How dose the outer bearing come out? Every 3/4 I have worked on the outer bearing you could pull out after the spindle nuts were pulled out.
But this hub has a ridge inside that stops the bearing from coming out.
Am I not seeing something here? Dose this year hub split some how?

P.S.Rearend has a 14 bolt cover.Ok maybe I found what I was looking for.Looked on   trucks it shows the GM 14 parts. They show some kind of retainer behind the outer bearing.

What rear end do you have so we can be certain? If you are unsure can you take a pic?

It should have an expanding c-ring inside that keeps the bearing in place. You have to find the 2 ends and squeeze them together to pull the ring out.

X 2 on the clip.
